All three performers are household names in New Zealand, their songs part of the musical landscape. Now the trio are looking forward to enjoying their songs with each other and with audiences in towns and cities throughout the country. The tour will see the three leading New Zealand singer/songwriters on stage together at all times, the show will be two hours long, presented in two halves with an interval. The singers will perform together and alone, acoustic and electric with and without a band. Tim Finn speaks for all three when he describes the excitement and romance of the tour. "Dave and Bic are top-shelf troubadours," he says. "They can write damn fine pop tunes and play them live. Traveling from town to town is old-school stuff, that’s what it’s all about: the tunes and the show. Between them, the trio have an enormous catalogue of songs beloved by all ages of New Zealanders. All three will get as much pleasure from performing each others’ songs as the audience. Bic Runga is proud to be working with two of her musical idols. "They’re the masters, I’m the student," she says. "I’ve studied their songwriting, and it’s an honour to play their songs. The tour is a very "egalitarian" concept, says Dave Dobbyn. "We’ll share the songs and share the billing. It’s leave your egos at home time and let’s get on with it." "It’s always exciting to work with other songwriters," says Finn, "this time it happens to be on stage. It’s a chance to share the songs and collectively take the audience on a journey." For the musicians, the concerts will be special on many levels. They will be evenings of celebration and creativity in the intimate comfort of New Zealand’s theatres."Theatre shows are what I’ve always enjoyed most," says Dobbyn. "People are there because they’re familiar with your music, and families can share the experience." "We’ll have an ensemble thing going. We’ll help each other out, and do each others’ songs. We’ll loosen up and change roles." Dobbyn is looking forward to playing some piano, Tim Finn and Bic on the drums. Joining the trio on stage will be Dobbyn’s drummer Wayne Bell and bass player Mark Hughes, plus Runga’s guitarist Andrew Thorne. Among the many classic songs will be some of the latest
written by the trio. Tim Finn released his latest album Say It Is So
earlier this year, and Dave Dobbyn’s new album Hopetown will be
launched during the first week of the tour. Runga is in the middle of recording
the follow-up to her massively successful debut album Drive, which is now
6 times platinum in New Zealand."
