The next Bic thing?

After reading our cover story about Anika Moa and the obvious comparisons with Bic Runga, the question occurs:

What's up with Bic these days?

That long-promised new album seems a little overdue given that her debut Drive was released here way back in 1997.

Well, she had most of a follow-up album recorded but was dissatisfied with it, and the tour last year with Tim Finn and Dave Dobbyn naturally shoved the schedule even further back. But we can report that she's recently been in New York laying down basslines and has, in the code of musicians, "finished tracking" the album.

There was some loose talk the new album would be out in October (from Bic actually) but there are any number of variables and according to her manager Campbell Smith, we might be looking at closer to the end of the year. This depends on having all the people and product in place. So it may be early next year, if not sooner. Or maybe later. But there's a new Bic album on its way, that much can be confirmed.

Got that?

As for Bic's big sister Boh, her band Stellar's sophomore album Magic Line is due out next month, though the date has been put back a week due to its mastering in New York being delayed because of recent events in the city.
