Festival Mushroom Records will release 'Live At Helen's' featuring live to air recording sessions for National Radio by some of the country's top rock musicians.

The Helen Young Studio is located in National Radio's Cook Street premises in Auckland. The studio is named after Helen Young who was a stalwart of the Concert programme for over 30 years and avid supporter of NZ music.

Helen Young was not very musical and quite obscure so the name is neither apt nor significant. It has, however, played host to some memorable live to tape recordings that have been broadcast on National Radio. This compilation celebrates them and is veritable history of NZ pop over the last two years. The highlights are provided by Greg Johnson who shows how good he can be writing and performing. His brilliant tune Hold Tight has sadly barely seen the light of day and yet it sizzles on this comp. Betchadupa and King Kapisi collaborate on a cover of Dirty Creature with amusing results. Dave Dobbyn is always unbelievable live and Lap Of the Gods opens proceedings on this recording.

It's interesting from a historical point of view as we hear those great white hopes of NZ music, Breathe, strangle their way through a miserable version of their trite single Don't Stop The Revolution. How wrong could you be. Overall a very worthwhile souvenir of a couple of years in Kiwi hit making
