Bic Runga has started her own record label and signed her first act. Tim Guy will be the first new act on Bic's Nu Shoo records.

"Tim is my first signing and I am looking for a distributor now" Bic tells Undercover News. "I'm just at the stage of mixing his recording. He is a good songwriter".

Bic is producing Tim's first record but she says she didn't discover him. "He discovered me. He came to my sound-check and gave me a demo".

Production is currently her first love although recording and performing still take high priority. "I'm definitely into production at the moment" she says. "I just won the award for Best Producer at the New Zealand Music Awards and it has given me a lot of confidence to keep learning more about that part of the music business".

That all sounds a bit modest considering her latest album 'Beautiful Collison' was just at #1 on the New Zealand charts. Bic also has an extensive Aussie tour lined up. In fact, it was as a result of 'Beautiful Vision' that she had the vision to start her own studio. "A good part of my album budget was used on the studio so I can use that for the next few albums and for other people" she says. "I've been lending my gear out to everyone in this town. As long as it comes back in one piece it doesn't bother me".

Bic starts her Australian tour June 16 at The Basement in Sydney.
