BIC RUNGA
'Get Some Sleep'
'Get Some Sleep' is the first Bic Runga single since 'Good Morning Baby' (with
Dan Wilson) in 2000. She first performed it at a few intimate shows at The
Odeon, in Auckland earlier last year. And the CD single has been released to
promote her next album 'Beautiful Collision' which will be out soon.
'Get some sleep' is simply a gorgeous song! 'From here, to there, to everywhere
and back to Union Square, when do I get some sleep?' I LOVE this song, it is so
catchy, the lyrics are gorgeous, they flow so naturally (I just love singing
along) - in short its another polished masterpiece from kiwi singer Bic Runga.
Unfortunately I wasn't as impressed by the other songs on the single - they just
lacked the shine 'Get some sleep' has. The lyrics to 'You don't want to know'
and 'Gracie' were quite depressing, yet the rhythm was upbeat which felt like a
weird mix to me. Both are written in 3rd person (she, he, they) which is an
unusual position for a song to come from, making Bic the storyteller. I know
they will grow on me though eventually, if I can stop myself putting 'Get some
sleep' on repeat!! Honestly that song is fabulous, I know Bic is capable of
awesome songs ('Good Morning Baby' for instance) So I'll definitely be looking
out for her new album!!
