Review by Ben from Bic Runga Official Messageboard:

"A nice kick off to the tour tonight. The Holy Trinity is a really flash and modern new church which made for a comfortable show. In contrast to the media launch in Auckland which was in a very old church, the Holy Trinity lacked the atmosphere and intimacy that a big beautiful old church gives.

Tim Guy was a reasonably good opening act. Not amazing but I enjoyed most of his songs. Some lyrics were a little winceworthy and one song was sung in falsetto but on the whole a nice little warm up set. It does make me interested in what his album sounds like, given Bic's production role.

Bic was great of course. There were quite a few moments where she seemed to hesitate and miss her singing cue in songs --> only just. Haven't noticed her do that before.

Set:

Honest Goodbyes (solo acoustic)
Bursting Through (solo acoustic) - this song is always beautiful and with the backlit lighting effects this performance was no exception.
When I see you Smile (solo acoustic)
Listening for the Weather (solo keyboard) - Not sure if this is a newly written version or if she has been playing it like this in the UK but it was new to me. I love it when songs are reinterpreted so this was great. Really simple keyboard accompaniament to her singing which is prominent on top. It is much slower, lacking the energy of the full band complete with harmonica version which I say as comparison not as criticism.
Beautiful Collision (Keyboard solo)
Same deal as Listening for the Weather, except that of course Beautiful Collision is usually has a prominent keyboard part.
Be All and End All (Bic on Guitar, BCB on harmonica)
Something Good (Bic and BCB on Guitar, BCB backup vocals) - same as they played it at the media launch. Of note is BCB's part near the end where his repeating noodle gets progressively louder as it goes on, starting softly each time. A nice touch.
The last kind word - (written by Geechi Wylie SIC). Cool to hear Bic sing a blues song, she pulls it off well.
Ne mi quette pas (BCB on guitar, Bic singing)
A new song (presumably a cover) BCB, Bic and Tim Guy all play guitar on this one, BCB and Bic definately sung, not sure about Tim.
I've got a question (Written by Tim Guy) - the same song that's on the Beautiful Collision bonus disc (Tim Guy and Bic sing in duet) sounded great.
Get some Sleep
She left on a Monday
Sway - interesting because she played it solo on an acoustic guitar, I've always seen her play it electric.
Gravity - Bic on keyboard, solo
Blind Man's Bend(Written by Dave Dobbyn) Bic Solo on guitar- couldn't decide at the time how well this song worked. I'm not familiar with the original but it felt a little disorganised at times. That's probably a little unfair actually, it was nice.
Drive (Bic solo on electric guitar).

So no puns about angelic or heavenly singing, it was a really nice concert. I'm sure it heralds an amazing tour (so I couldn't resist the pun - shoot me). New Zealand's in for a treat over the next few weeks
