New Zealand’s official millennium song, I’ll Meet You There, goes on sale in music stores around the country today.

The song, performed by Pearl Runga and Brett Sawyer with words and music by James Hall and Boh Runga, has been written especially for TV3 and the New Zealand Millennium Offices ‘First to the Future’ marketing campaign.

New Zealand Millennium Office manager Sharon van Gulik says the release of the song aims to fuel the growing excitement about New Zealand’s millennium.

"Other major sporting, tourism and national events have their own theme songs and this one represents the millennium," she says.

Ms van Gulik says the song will excite the imagination of people around the country as the millennium approaches.

"We’ve received extremely positive feedback from New Zealand’s public so far and come 31 December we’re confident I’ll Meet You There will be sung by New Zealanders everywhere."

The song’s co-composer, James Hall, says the song aims to encapsulate New Zealand sound.

"I’ll Meet You There helps reinforce New Zealand’s identity as the first to see the sun of the new millennium," he says.

New Zealand’s Official Millennium Broadcaster TV3 will use the song as part of it’s 30 hour domestic millennium broadcast on 31 December 1999. The song may also feature as part of TV3’s international millennium broadcast that will see around one billion people worldwide join in on New Zealand’s millennium celebrations.

The song will be available on CD ($6.95) at quality music stores around the country from today. Released by Warner Music, the CD features three tracks from James Hall’s soon to be released album.
