New Zealand star, Bic Runga gives an inside look at her extraordinary career.

26-year-old singer/songwriter Bic Runga has taken New Zealand by storm and has now come to Canada to share her awesome songs. Bic's new album Beautiful Collision was released on November 5th. Beautiful Collision is a follow up to her last album Drive, released in 1997. Bic has spent three years on Beautiful Collision; she plays the piano, drums and guitar. I was lucky enough to get a chance to talk to Bic about her new album and what she had to do to achieve her goals.

youthink: When did you begin your career in singing?
Bic: When I was 11, I went touring around with local jazz musicians.

y: How would you describe the style of your music?
B: A lot of my music is a type of folk; it's simple and basic a lot of which focuses more on the lyrics. It's music meant for daydreamers and to get you through rush hour.

y: What was it like living in New Zealand? How is it different from Canada?
B: It was great living in New Zealand, my friends are there as well as my family, and I stopped living there in 1995. It is a lot colder down there then it is here in Canada.

y: What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
B: I believe it was my sister; she sort of paved the way for me when she became a singer. I always used to look at her and want to be just like her, I thought she was cool.

y: Other than music, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
B: I like books, I like going to bookstores, and actually I like books more than reading. Mostly non-fiction books and
other than that I enjoy listening to music and keep up to date with my tunes.

y: What do you hope to achieve in your career?
B: Well, basically my goal was to release an album and now that I have done that I guess my only goal now is to release more albums.

y: During performances do you ever get nervous?
B: Yes, before I'm about to do a show and perform I find myself starting to get nervous.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bic for taking the time out of her busy schedule to do a one on one interview. It was very nice talking to Bic as she was a very interesting young singer.
